You’ve invested in a home safe and are very proud of your purchase, but not so proud that you want to display it for everyone to see!
Nowadays, keeping your safe away from prying eyes has never been easier, and it’s even possible to have them disguised so that they look like, something else.
Here are 3 great places to hide your high security safe at home:
- In the attic
The average burglar wants to spend as little time inside a home as possible, and it’s rare that they’ll even contemplate trying to get into your attic, not to mention taking the time to rummage around among all the junk in there, in the dark. This makes the attic a fantastic place to put a safe, and even if a burglar did venture up there, there are usually many easy ways to keep a safe hidden in a dark corner, furthest away from the entry point.
That said, if your safe is a high security one and weighs a considerable amount, you may not be able to put it up there yourself, and if you need to access it regularly, this might not be so convenient. Ultimately, you’ll need to weigh up the pros and cons of hiding your safe in the attic, but if you really want it to go up there, a professional safe installer could help you move it there.
- In your kitchen
Home safes can be disguised to look just like one of your kitchen cabinets, and since such places aren’t typically used to store items of value, there’s little chance a burglar will even try opening any cabinets, anyway. There are a few other places to hide a safe in your kitchen, too, including:
- Underneath a counter
- Under the sink
- Behind a hidden wall or shelving
- Behind other kitchen items
- Under your stairs
Many homes have a small storage space underneath their stairs, andprovided you don’t put a safe in full view inside the space, this can be a great hiding place. You can even disguise the door to the space, so a burglar (or anyone else) won’t even know that the space exists. Alternatively, you could have a professional contractor (or safe specialist) create a hidden compartment inside the stairs themselves, so that an innocent looking step, can be opened up (by someone who knows that it’s there), to reveal a hidden safe. If created well and by someone who knows what they’re doing, this can be a really effective hiding space that no burglar would even suspect.
Buying a high security safe for your home is the first step to protecting the things you hold dear, but keeping it out of sight, is the second one. For more storage tips or help with having a safe installed in a secret location, reach out to your local safe manufacture and/or installer.
