Burglars are Becoming More Brazen; What Can You Do About It?

Statistics have shown that burglars throughout the U.S. and indeed, the world over, are becoming much more brazen in their methods, and will often stop at nothing to break into people’s homes and businesses and take what doesn’t belong to them. The evidence shows that burglars are now increasingly:

Arming themselves

A burglar with a weapon is a frightening prospect, and while not all intruders come armed, more are choosing to do so.

Targeting the vulnerable

While the weak and vulnerable have always been prone to attacks from criminals such as burglars and intruders, the evidence shows that individuals are going to greater lengths to research their victims and target those who will be most susceptible, in increasingly cruel and heartless ways.

Striking in broad daylight

Bold burglars are so desperate to get their hands on your valuables, that they no longer have the patience to wait until nightfall to break into people’s homes, and are striking during daylight hours. Some pose as delivery people or tradespeople, and are even as brazen as to knock on doors and convince the homeowner to let them inside the property.

Going to greater lengths

While we might all associate burglars with the lower, less educated classes, the reality is that criminals are becoming more cunning and going to greater lengths than ever before to develop house breaking skills, and their efforts are often going rewarded.

Carrying out serial crimes

Repeat offenders are becoming more and more common, and oftentimes, a property will be targeted more than once in a matter of weeks, or even days, by exactly the same criminals.

Working in teams

It’s bad enough to think of one burglar breaking into someone’s home or business, but to think that they might be operating in gangs, is a scary thought. According to police reports, criminals are often working together to create scams that distract victims while an accomplice carries out a raid on their home.

What can you do to protect yourself from brazen burglars?

Certain security measures may act as a deterrent for some burglars, such as motion sensor lights (or permanent exterior lights), CCTV camera systems and burglar alarms, while for the utterly brazen, they may just be seen as a challenge. What this means is that to give you and your home the very best protection, you need to have a multi-layered security system that incorporates all of the aforementioned, with the addition of a high security safe for your most valuable possessions, high security locks on all doors and all windows (at least on the ground floor) and modern tech such as doorbell monitoring systems.

If brazen burglars have got you worried about protecting yourself and your home, talk to a local security expert about how you can improve your security measures, and reduce the risk of being targeted by desperate and determined thieves.
